I remember a thread some time back when the first inexpensive HVLP spraygun kits were introduced. No one had any experience with them. Wondering if anyone has tried them out? It seems like a great way to go if the kits are able to maintain a consistent and proper flow. |

I have used the $100 model from Rockler with Nitro as well as KTM-9 and it worked quite well for both. Pete Licis may have used the same sprayer as well but I'm not aware of his results. |

have used the wagner 2600 and works well with all the materials (if asking about full system) 1 qt gun, 25ft hose. warm lacquer coming out. 3 turbine, lot of noise, but can be dealt with. best review at time bought them about 3 years ago. if looking for just gun with compressor they have some gravity types. used in shop, with some adjustments getting it done. |

I just used one last week with KTM-9. It is a continuous bleed system which means that it is blowing air coninuously and only sprays finish when you pull the trigger. If you spray the finish on too thick, the extra air will blow the finish around and create orange peel. There doesn't seem to be a setting between grainey and orange peel. That may be a characteristic of KTM-9 if the other post I just read is any indication. Spray it on grainy and you should be quite happy with it. I borrowed mine and I'm going to buy one as soon as the holidays are over. (Never buy a new tool 10 days before Christmas. She knows what you might want/need more than you think she does) |

I have one and it works OK but I was not happy with siphon feed. I would much prefer gravity feed. So I got an Ingersol-Ram HVLP gun with 4oz gravity feed media container. It is a typical conversion gun on demand air. It is trickier to set the feed and air mixture ratios but once you have them set It does a better job than the $100 bleed systems in my opinion. but I am not knocking them. the are worth the money |

I too have an Ingersol-Ram HVLP gravity feed gun that I have been using with KMT-9. It's been working well for me once I got it set up properly. That said though, I have no experience with anything else so....take my opinion for what it's worth. Before spraying an instrument, practice spraying and sanding back on scrap wood a few times until you get the gun adjusted the way you would like....I didn't and ended up needing to respray my first instrument two times.  |

Pete Licis may have used the same sprayer as well but I'm not aware of his results. I've not done a guitar with it yet, but test swatches with a couple of waterbornes (including KTM-9) seemed like it will work well. |
